VÉGÉCLAIRINE:
Makari de Suisse’s secret ingredient
Manufactured in Switzerland and prominent in Europe for nearly a decade, MAKARI de Suisse’s treatments are designed to address the many skin concerns caused by the overproduction of melanin and hyperpigmentation experienced by men and women of darker complexions.
Many of the causes of skin discoloration come with living in modern times. Hormones created during pregnancy or when taking the pill as well as antibiotics can increase skin’s sensitivity to the sun and cause melasma, or darkened patches of skin on the face. Ethnic skin is also subject to scarring from minor wounds, rashes and blemishes.
While one does not want to remove melanin in the skin, MAKARI de Suisse products help to discourage its production. “It takes around 3 weeks to get to the basal layer (where melanin is produced) from the upper layer of the skin,” explains Jacques Duthoy, Research and Development, MAKARI de Suisse. “This explains why results are usually seen after a three-week period of time.”
Végéclairine is MAKARI de Suisse’s trademark name for its main natural lightening ingredient. MAKARI de Suisse is, “firm in our commitment to avoid the use of harmful chemicals such as bleach or hydroquinone,” says Duthoy, Research and Development of MAKARI de Suisse. “We are able to maintain this commitment by using the high grade botanical ingredients, such as Végéclairine,” he adds. The name shows the natural origin of this extract-- purely vegetal and treated exclusively with non toxic solvents, such as hot water and ethanol. It diminishes the production of melanin naturally, without any side effects.
Végéclairine comes from the roots of the White Mulberry tree, growing in many parts of the world, mainly in Asia. It was also cultivated in Europe in the past centuries, as it is the only possible food for silkworms.
In holistic medicine the White Mulberry tree’s bark has been used since ancient times most notably in traditional Chinese medicine under the name sang bai pi, or sohakuhi in Japanese, to fight hypertension, edema and cough.
Végéclairine inhibits an enzyme, tyrosine, which is an essential factor of the production of melanin. Tyrosine catalyzes different steps between the substrate tyrosine (an amino-acid) and melanin itself. When tyrosine is less active, the production of melanin decreases.
Many lightening ingredients work the same way, but are sometimes too weak, sometimes bring irritation or sensitization, and possibly more serious problems. For example hydroquinone, which is now banned in many countries because it is directly toxic to some cells, and can bring permanent discoloration.
Végéclairine, containing many flavonoids, is also a strong antioxidant and fights free radicals, a valuable property for anti-aging.
